We are offering the final session of the 2023/24 school year of our Spanish Story Hour program. Our goal is to work with the Latino community to support early literacy within the home by having a weekly Spanish Story Hour. We want to encourage Spanish-speaking parents to speak Spanish in their home, as a way of strengthening the language skills of their children. Oral language development, an early literacy skill, transfers across languages. Children who have developed early literacy skills in their first language will find it easier to develop those same skills in English. Activities that promote early literacy skills in preschool-aged children include interactive storybook reading and interactive experiences with language through poems, nursery rhymes, and songs. This program is open to the general public and free, thanks to a community grant from the Sonoma County Vintners Foundation. The program is designed for Spanish speakers and includes 10 one-hour classes.
